The
Stacey Cut is a curly hair shape built around two zones, a round graduation
underneath and a layered top section, both worked on dry hair so you can see
the curl in its natural state throughout the entire process. Before scissors
touch the hair, the first step is understanding the curl in front of you.
Assessing the curl type, anticipating how much it will bounce up when cut
shorter, and letting that inform every decision you make. This is where the
Stacey Cut begins.
Under the horseshoe, a round graduation is built using backward diagonal sections.
These sections direct the hair back and away from the face, and the graduation
is developed, creating weight, shape, and structure
through the bottom zone.
The top section is then worked in layers, elevating each section above 90 degrees
and following the horseshoe line as your guide. Small increases in elevation
from section to section create gradual lightness through the top, giving the
curl room to move without losing its shape. Once both zones are complete, the
cut finishes with a freehand refinement pass that personalises the shape and
brings the whole result together.
What
You Will Learn
• How to assess curl type and anticipate bounce before you begin cutting
• How to build a round graduation using backward diagonal sections on curly hair
• How elevation controls weight and lightness through the top section
• Why working dry gives you a more accurate reading of the curl throughout the cut
• How to create a result that works with the curl rather than against it
Stacey Cut is a shape that teaches you to slow down, assess what is in front of
you, and let the curl guide your decisions. That skill carries into every curly
hair appointment you will ever do.
